designSUPERMARKET, 11 - 14 december 2014 Prague (Czech Republic)

designSUPERMARKET entered its 8th year and given its timing it has become a Christmas tradition for people interested in design. More than 80 designers including foreign guests such as Muslin Brothers (Israel) and FASHIONCLASH (Netherlands) all together presented their work at Dům U Minuty, in one building right next to the Prague’s Old Town Hall.
The selection of designers is a diverse mix of fashion, product design, accessories and many jewellery designers. Almost all designers produce their products in home country and therefore this is a perfect opportunity to discover and buy made-in-Czech Republic design and initiatives like Local Icons. The aim of the project LOCAL ICONS is to support development of the local fashion industry and its interaction with contemporary design. They want to contribute to better awareness of contemporary production and improve its accessibility. They select timeless pieces of classical clothes made in Czech factories and initiate innovation by giving the new generation an idea of traditional designs and production possibilities with local brands. For the first time, Local Icons presented redesigns of products of selected Czech factories involved in the project. They cooperated with designers like LaFormela, Miro Sabo or ODIVI.

Hana Frišonsová

Majority of designSUPERMARKET participants where jewellery designers, proving huge potential with their well crafted designs. Unosto collective brings together a curated selection of jewellery designs. They present themselves with innovative installations. (http://www.unosto.cz/en). 2d3d is also a collective of architects and designers combing they talents and fascinations. Furthermore I was intrigued by work of ZORYA, Katerina Reichova and Dana Bezděková. Showcased fashion was provided by familiar name Hana Frišonsová (FASHIONCLASH Festival participant) and several new promising names Mirka Horka, Odivi, Pavel Brejcha and the guests from Tel Aviv Muslin Brothers.
Founded in 2011, Muslin Brothers is formed by designers Tamar Levit and Yaen Levi. They live and work in Tel Aviv, the city of many cultures. Equally diverse are their inspirations for designing clothes. They perceive clothes as a statement about the difficult situation which surrounds them. Creations by Muslin Brothers are playful, ironic and unconventional. (http://muslinbrothers.com)

For this edition FASHIONCLASH platform has been invited to present Dutch fashion talent at designSUPERMARKET 2014. Diversity, innovation and creativity of Dutch fashion design where on display with work of five young designers. The selection included Joelle Boers|Studio, Ebby Port, Marsha Kessels, Chris van den Elzen and Judith van Vliet.

FASHIONCLASH team and designers and Czech winning designers

In collaboration with Czech Centres, FASHIONCLASH team selected 3 designers and awarded them with participation at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015. Via a concept of speed dating designers got time to pitch their projects and show their portfolios. Barbara Procházkova PULSE won a spot in the fashion show programme and Blueberries and Sofya Samareva a spot in the market.

designSUPERMARKET is an international festival of contemporary design founded in 2007. Its ambition is to create a continuous platform for exhibiting and selling original works in the field of product design, accessories, fashion, jewelry and graphic design by the currently best Czech and foreign young professionals and talented students.
