Impressions from the 9th edition of Skopje Fashion Weekend

Love as inspiration, driving force, impulse, and passion for creating art. Love painted on canvas. And, out of the canvas, clothes sewed with love to warm your soul when love has left. Love as everyday life, art as life. The collection is dominated by darker colors and patterns, like those in painter’s canvases, and most of the models have been hand painted. The shapes of the models are inspired by the 1970s and 1990s, and most of the materials are natural (wool, cotton, linen) or a mix with rayon, polyester, or lycra.

Inspired by Thom Mayne's architecture, Zaha Hadid's interiors, and the geometrical installations of the artist Esther Stoker, my intention was to create a collection that would be, above all, contemporary and esthetically refined. A collection which will present my vision for women in the future. The monochromatic tones are the driving force, but the metal reflection which appears as cohesion of the models among the collection of different textures, leaves a strong emphasis.

Elena Luka has created a new collection for you! Strong contrasts in texture, shape, and construction were used in its creation. The contrasts will emphasize your authenticity, playing with shapes, while leaving its own signature and image of your character. The choice of soft finishing finesses for the overall creative process of the creation is a synonym of your own femininity, elegance, and glamour! www.elenaluka.mk

Collection PURENESS The pure lines and shapes that occur in nature, as well as the purity of the shapes created by human hand, are the driving force of this Spring-Summer 2014 collection. The sophistication of the carefree femininity and the global jet set style are also represented. The palette consists of pastel colors expressed through natural materials as cotton, linen, and silk.

The inspiration for the collection lies in the film Gravity, the substantial message which is interwoven throughout the film, as well as the concept of gravity in its basic meaning. Also, an additional psychological element prevails, as that in the mind of the astronaut when he looks down at Earth from an enormous altitude which acts suggestively on him to understand not just the fragility of his own being, but the fragility of everything on Earth as well.By adding heavy materials to the ends of the pieces, I tried to depict the meaning of gravity, which is a natural force that gives weight to objects and cause them to fall freely toward the earth when released from an altitude. In addition, there are astronautic phrases at the back of some models, as well as the sign for center of gravity which has been added discretely to several spots. Colors:black, white, violet, soft gray and golden details.

Olivera Shtakoska

Olivera Shtakoska
Collection LACE Shtakoska’s first collection is inspired by many people, music, old photographs, old jewelry and, above all, by the materials that were used. LACE consists of long dresses, shirts, and vests made of lace, cotton, linen, and wool. It abounds with ethno elements and embroideries. Earth tones like reddish brown nuances, green, and beige, are predominant. The collection is made in Boho style and is meant for unconventional women with an open mind.

Rosica Mrshik

Rosica Mrshik
In her Spring-Summer 2014 collection inspired by the Constructivism – avant-garde movement in architecture – Rosica Mrshik introduces selected elements from the fashion style of the 1980s. Models based on narrow figure with emphasized shoulders, complicated technically with elements of constructivism, in order to achieve qualities such as precision, simplicity, and expressed formal purity. The entire collection speaks with the language of functional design.By combining details from menswear, a contrast in the appearance of the female silhouette has been achieved, which is characterized ratherby simplification of form than by use of decoration. The result is stylish clothing for women who like a sophisticated look during the day, which also changes into evening look.

A mix of mythology and what is known as fashionable, inspired by the old Slavic culture, combined in this collection which presents an unusual and sophisticated look for every woman! The performance is inspired by the image of the old Slavic mythological creature rusalka, which is a female fairy, usually dressed in a long white dress with wreath on the head. It is believed that therusalki lived beside brooks, rivers… The rusalki were also believed to steal and murder newborns, and drown men who couldn't resist their beauty and singing. This performance is an excerpt from these fairy tales, where a rusalka is being prepared for a bride.

“Iv Infinity” – Collection:“Pure vision” – Spring-Summer 2014 For the Spring-Summer 2014 “Pure vision” collection, we present women’s struggle for dominance. The collection is inspired by the need for glamorous, exact, and powerful look. The clear outline of the line emphasizes the unique female ability to capture, combined in a gentle, at the same time, powerful appearance, which symbolizes the natural beauty of the gentle sex.The golden color, which is presented in the forefront, is a symbol of the value and sophistication in women, while the rest shades of soft colors outline the beauty that makes each woman the gentle sex.Actually, the main incentive that helped the creation of this line is the contrast in each woman individually, as well as the uniqueness and the diverse beauty in each of them.

Spectacle 2014 The collection is inspired by the idea of an unreal society in which the spectacle is used as a complex justification that the lie is actually the truth. In the creation of this collection, we have used materials and production techniques which support the idea of twisted reality and meaninglessness. We live in an era of self-destruction by the urban development, so that is why this collection consists of deformed pieces, carrying the idea of urban twist and augmented forms, which emphasize the existing spectacle in urbanistics.

Hard to explain

Atelier “Hard to explain” by Katerina Popeva and Marija Dacevska
“THE STORYTELLER” “Fairy tales exist to be written in color. I will tell you this one as I remembered it, not the way it really happened…”The main goal of this show/collection is to tell, through performance, a special tale of the city of Skopje, which, seen through the eyes of the authors of this collection, is set on the cobblestones of the Bazaar and it lives its own special fairy tale. Through the narration of the storyteller, who leads us throughout the entire fashion show/performance, which is located on the cobblestones of the Bazaar in front of the atelier “Hard to explain”, you will have the possibility to see the new avant-garde collections. The atelier’s goal was to make the pieces, which will be presented in this fashion show, all-season, i.e. to be worn throughout the entire year.
